Hier wird der Charakter von Diltheys Kritik der historischen Vernunft durch eine Interpretation der Rolle der reflektierenden Urteilskraft in Kants Kritik der Urteilskraft herausgearbeitet. Die beiden Kapitel des vierten Teils haben einen stärker explorativen Charakter. Aus Diltheys letzten Schriften über Dichtung und Musik werden Hinweise aufgegriffen, um einige Unzulänglichkeiten seiner Weltanschauungstheorie zu behandeln.
