Old Abe, the bald eagle, hatched in northern Wisconsin in 1861. He became a mascot for the Eighth Wisconsin Regiment in the Civil War. Old Abe accompanied the 8th Regt. through three years of combat, becoming a symbol of courage. Later he attended their reunions and state fairs. Here he tells his tory in the first person.
