Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Unclipped jacket has light edge wear with minor tears and chipping. Mild rubbing and marking.

On 6 January 1886, the pioneer bush settlers in the primitive clearings near Stratford were faced suddenly with a life or death crisis. The fires they had been using as settlement tools turned to foes. A gripping account of that hectic summer and its effect on the developing colony.

Internally clean. Binding tight and appears little read; no annotation or inscriptions; toning to page-ends but text and illustrations bright and clear throughout. Not an old library book.
