First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Paul Frame (illustrator). 1st Edition. Whitman's mid-century Famous Classics edition of Treasure Island presents Robert Louis Stevenson's adventure tale in a richly illustrated format designed for young readers. Issued as Series No. 6087 and copyrighted 1955, this edition includes numerous black-and-turquoise two-tone drawings by Paul Frame, decorative chapter headings, and pictorial endsheets depicting the Hispaniola anchored offshore. The laminated pictorial boards feature vivid wraparound art of Long John Silver and crew landing on the island. This copy shows wear from use: laminate cracking and chipping at the spine ends, wear along joints, small dents, and rubbing to edges. Interior hinges are cracked and partially detached, particularly at the front where the illustrated paper lining is split. Paper is evenly age-toned throughout, with small smudges and handling marks, and several pages show corner creasing. A small Christmas seal dated 1960 appears on the front endpaper. Despite flaws, the book remains complete, fully legible, and retains its bright vintage illustrations and iconic mid-century Whitman charm. Pages are clean and unmarked. Based on the style, series listing, and early copyright line, this is likely the 1955 first Whitman printing/edition for this particular Paul Frame-illustrated version.

Paperback. Condition: New. The Orient Line was once one of the most recognised names operating on the route between Great Britain and Australia, forming an important connection between the many peoples of the Empire. The great vessels of Orient Line included Oronsay, Orsova, Orcades and Oriana. Despite being formed with no mail subsidy and a dominant competitor in PandO, the Orient Line endured. It survived two world wars, the Great Depression and stormy seas - carrying everything from mail to royalty, troops to tourists. From the early days of the Orient Line of Clipper Ships through the era of steam driven liners, to the final Orient Line voyage, this book showcases the history of Orient Line with an exquisite collection of rare photographs.
