There are essays on the Pilgrims, the settlement of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island, a section on the Pequod War, Progress of the Colonies and biographical essays on many famous men of the early colonial era; e. G. Bradford, Endicott, Cotton, Carver, etc. AUTHOR: Rev. Thomas Robbins, (1777 - 1856) was a Congregational minister, a bibliophile, and an antiquarian. He became the first librarian of the Connecticut Historical Society. He was elected a member of the American Antiquarian Society in 1815. In addition to the extensive book collection, Robbins bequeathed $3, 000 to the Connecticut Historical Society to care for the books, and to enlarge the collection. Each book contains a bookplate and all the bookplates include a record of the price paid for the book. The society also has Robbins' original bookshelves. .
