There is an illustration wrapped around the front and back covers, with the title printed in white text down the spine, and in red and black text on the front cover. Pages: (5), 7-335, (1). Profusely illustrated with both black-and-white and color images. "Jakob Christoph Miville (1786-1836) war ein international tätiger Basler Maler und Zeichner. Ein Rom-Aufenthalt und Reisen in die Alpen prägten seine frühen heroischen Landschaften. Doch erst in Russland (1809 - 1817) entwickelte er sein eigenes Gefühl für die Natur: Die Weite der Landschaft, die er in der Krim und im Kaukaus vorfand, inspirierte seine Entwicklung zum romantischen Landschaftsmaler. Das umfangreiche Studienmaterial, das er in seine Heimatstadt zurückbrachte, bildete auch in der Schweiz die Grundlage für seine Gemälde. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Stiftung für Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts aus Olten widmet das Kunstmuseum Basel Miville und seinem näheren künstlerischen Umfeld erstmals eine umfangreiche Publikation, die Zeichnungen und Gemälde aus schweizerischen und russischen Sammlungen zusammenführt."
