Add to baskethardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition Limited Edition. Publication: Liverpool, William C. Elly, 1928 Formatting: 8vo, pp. [vi], 88. Condition Report: Good. The quarter red cloth and grey paper-covered boards remain structurally sound and tightly bound, though displaying notable external wear. The spine exhibits fading with light rubbing and minor fraying at the head and tail, while the corners are lightly bumped. The front board remains relatively clean; however, the rear board bears a prominent, dark liquid stain or cup ring to its centre alongside general rubbing and discolouration. Internally, the book is much more presentable: the pages remain largely bright, clean, and free from significant foxing or oxidisation, retaining a firm and tight block throughout. Catalogue Note: First edition, limited to a strictly scarce print run of just 150 copies. This title stands as a remarkably uncommon piece of Liverpudlian local history, rarely seen on the open market due to its exceptionally low limitation. Illustrated throughout with a frontispiece and various plates detailing the architectural evolution of the docks, including both the old and new Custom Houses. The copyright for specific architectural plans is notably vested in His Majesty's Stationery Office, suggesting an academic rigour to Rideout's archival research. A rigorously researched architectural and administrative history of Liverpool's Custom House. Rideout traces the structural evolution of the city's waterfront, detailing the transition from the Old Custom House to the newly built 19th-century Neo-classical landmark that once defined the docks. Complete with archival floor plans and historical elevations, this work offers an invaluable window into the commercial heart of one of the British Empire's most vital port cities.
