Engraved frontispiece by Hinchliff after Vasari; no guard. Bookplate "ex libris Edwardus Evans". Roscoe, a Unitarian by faith, was not the obvious choice to write thes…e biographies, yet the books were well received when first published and deservedly ran to many popular editions, of which this is an interesting example. Hard work in places (the author is not averse to reproducing lengthy quotations in the original Latin or Italian), but Roscoe's admiration for Lorenzo de' Medici shines through.
