Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Quarter-bound in brown leather, with cloth sides, complimented with brown leather corners, and gilt titles on the spine. This hardback book is in really good condition considering its over one hundred years old. Some wear to the leather, the paper connection between the first illustrat…ion page and title page, has torn, however its still a reasonably tight binding. Normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Pen and ink name and address on first blank page and very tiny spotting here and there, hardly noticeable but thought it prudent to mention. 326 pages all intact, all pages, text and illustrations are in fine, clean, readable order. Its a really fascinating, thick, heavy book, with an abundance of wonderful illustrations, perfect for any bird enthusiast.

Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. First Edition. 8vo. xxiv. 310pp. Bound in the original publisher cloth with gilt titling. The copy of Bowman Foster Stockwell with his remarkable bookplate on the front paste-down and a note in his hand on the last printed page: 's.S. Andania Sunday March 7, 1926.' The sparse bookplate image depicts a map of South Ame…rica, cross, and the dictate 'Go Ye -.' Stockwell was an American Methodist missionary, teacher and scholar who was sent by the Church to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1926, aboard the Andania. He was director of the Union Seminary (now La Facultad Evangelica de Teologia) and assembled an important collection of books and related materials pertaining to the Spanish Reformation, still held by the seminary today. Stockwell also became a Bishop, was responsible for the recognition of the seminary as a university, and authored several books of theology. An important figure in the history of Christianity in Latin America. VERY GOOD. Marginal shelf rubbing of the edges, the occasional light scuff of the cloth, a hint of toning at the endpapers, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards remain distinct. As pictured.
