D. 325 written by The Rev. Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson, Editors. This is an American Reprint of the Edinburgh Edition, Revised and Chronologically Arranged,…with Brief Prefaces and Occasional Notes by A. Cleveland Coxe. This is Volume II, Fathers of the Second Century: Hermas, Tatian, Athenagoras, Theophilus, and Clement of Alexandria. This is, also, one volume out of eight/nine (There's a supplemental volume that is a Bibliography and a General Index.) that were published in 1885 and 1886 by The Christian Literature Publishing Company. This is one of eight volumes that I have. All are ex-library copies from the WFU Religion Seminar Library. I do not know what WFU stands for for sure, perhaps, Wake Forest University. This book (and all of the others in the series) is 7 1/4" by 10 1/4" . This volume has and has 629 pages with a Table of Contents. This volume is in good condition with yellowing pages and a brittle spine which I have reinforced with glue and clear tape. NOT present] ; The 1968 second edition of Biological Science: An… Inquiry Into Life (BSCS Yellow Version), edited by John A. Moore and published by Harcourt, Brace & World, was a seminal high school textbook emphasizing inquiry-based learning, molecular biology, and evolution. It aimed to move beyond rote memorization, focusing on scientific investigation rather than just facts. Key details regarding this 1968 edition include: Focus on Inquiry: The text and accompanying laboratory guide emphasized investigation, challenging students to analyze data and formulate hypotheses rather than just observing. Content and Structure: It was designed for 10th or 11th-grade students, heavily incorporating modern biological findings from the 1950s and 60s, including molecular biology and genetics. Reception: While lauded for promoting scientific thinking, some contemporary reviews suggested that despite the title, the text still contained a "good deal of telling" rather than pure inquiry, and it was quite rigorous. Impact: This BSCS text was considered a landmark in reforming biology education in the United States, moving away from descriptive biology toward a process-oriented approach. The book was frequently revised and reapproved for use in classrooms throughout the late 1960s and 1970s. ; 5 Excellent presentation of evolution, integrating synthetic theory. "Marred by progressionist ideology and claims of link to cultural evolution." ; BSCS "Yellow Version" aka Biological Science: An Inquiry Into Life ; FINE. Book.

Hardback. Condition: Very Good. New Edition. 1876. New edition in two volumes. xl, 393pp., colour frontispiece and 3 other colour plates, 1 black and white plate and 31 illustrations within the text; [vi], 8 pages of music, 440pp., a colour frontispiece and 1 other colour plate, and black and white illustrations in the text (the… list of illustrations states that specimens of music should appear at page 269 but this probably refers to the music bound in at the start of the book). Top edges gilt. James Logan (1797-1872) was a Scottish author on Gaelic culture, best known for his book The Scottish Gaël. The work was first published in 1831, and was based on walking tours he had made in the Scottish highlands and islands during the previous decade, during which he collected Gaelic antiquities. The work encompasses a wide range of topics, from archaeology to early 19th-century Gaelic literature, and includes chapters on war, arms, dress, hunting, food, poetry and music, and religion. It also contains much valuable commentary on highland mores and traditional lore. The two volumes are uniformly bound in green buckram covered boards with gold titling on the spines (we are uncertain if this was the original binding). The cases of the books are in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling to the boards and light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few light marks and some soiling to page 65 in volume 1. There is a little light foxing on the fore edge of the text blocks. The endpapers are slightly foxed and the free endpapers are browned. There is no inscription. PLEASE NOTE: This is a fairly heavy set and extra postage may apply for delivery outside the UK.
