A highly-regarded set of Biblical commentaries on the Jewish Tanakh (which the Christian faiths refer to as the Old Testament). The project took ten years to complete and furnished, "for the first time, a Commentary in English on the whole of the Hebrew Scriptures, written by Jews" (n.b., p. [vii] of Volume 14). The jackets of blue upon a yellow ground each have a different silhouette illustration on the front panels, some with a biblical verse beneath, and a list of the volumes in the set on the back panels. ___CONDITION: Volumes mostly fine, the boards clean, straight corners without rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; the sole exception to this that we see being an old previously dampened section the the back of Volume 1 (the final approximately 30 pages rippled near the gutter margin at the bottom of the text block, the only noticeable stain being at the rear endpapers).
