Trade Paperback. Condition: Used - Very Good. Details Howard Carter's discovery of the tomb of Tuthmosis (Thoutmosis) IV, in the Valley of the Kings. Howard Carter's discovery of the tomb of Tuthmosis (Thoutmosis) IV, sponsored by Theodore M. Davis, initiated a decade of immensely fruitful work in the Valley of the Kings. The fi…nd was a rich and informative one. Undisturbed since the removal of the king's mummy around 1000 BC, the tomb's elegant chambers were literally strewn with antiquities -- shabti-figures, model vessels, ritual equipment, textiles, throne panels, and a chariot. In the burial chamber itself stood the king's magnificent quartzite sarcophagus, its painted decoration as fresh as in antiquity. 'The Tomb of Thoutmosis IV' was first published in 1904. Incorporating an historical essay on the king's reign by Gaston Maspero, a description of the work and illustrated catalogue of the finds by Carter and Percy E. Newberry, and a paper on the king's mummy by Grafton Elliot Smith, it represents Davis's full, official report on the discovery.

Contact seller4-star sellerAn uncut paper doll book with 8 sets of pre-colored dolls and 8 sets of dolls for children to color themselves, featuring the glamourous film stars of the silent era. This copy has been charmingly colored by a child with colored pencils. Describes itself as "The cleverest cut-outs ever devised, combined with outline studies to b…e colored, showing the Photoplay stars and their favorite costumes". Aims not only to entertain children, but to teach them how to paint and mix colors. Each doll can be cut out and folded to stand on its own, and is accompanied by a brief biographical description. The stars included in the book are: May Allison; Douglas Fairbanks; Charlie Chaplin; Elsie Ferguson; Mary Pickford; Norma Talmadge; Marguerite Clark; and Geraldine Farrar. It is quite interesting to see which names are still recognizable to the general public today (e.g. Charlie Chaplin), and which have been sidelined; Geraldine Farrar, in particular, is unknown now, but she was so popular in her day that her fan base had its own name ("Gerry-Flappers"). A scarce paper doll book, and a fun way the studios could promote their stars to younger movie-goers. Single vol. (11" by 8.5"), 16 leaves (this copy lacks second leaf) stapled in original illus. wrps with Norma Talmadge paper doll on front. Very good. Lacks one leaf (the pre-colored May Allison doll).
