First published in 1614, Raleigh wrote his"The History of the World" while imprisoned in the Tower of London, from1603 to 1616, after being convicted of conspiring against King James I. Anintended three-volume set, this was the only volume completed and comesdown to the second Roman war with Macedonia. This edition includes BenJohnson's sonnet "The Mind of the Front". Jonson claimed to have revisedthe "History" before it went to publication. A very popular book, the"History" went through numerous editions, the 1687 being the tenth edition.

Luxusausgabe der "Discovery of the large, rich, and beautiful empire of Guiana" von dem britischen Seefahrer und Entdeckungsreisenden Sir Walter Raleigh (hier "Ralegh"; 1552-1618), einem Protegé der Königin Elisabeth I., der im Jahre 1595 eine lange Expedition nach Südamerika unternahm. Sein Ziel war die Entdeckung des sagenhaften "El Dorado", das er jedoch nicht finden konnte, wofür er allerdings wertvolle Erkenntnisse über den Orinoco sammeln konnte, die er 1596 unter dem Titel veröffentlichte: "The discoverie of the large, rich, and bevvtifvl empyre of Gviana, with a relation of the great and Golden Citie of Manoa (which the Spanyards call El Dorado) And of the Prouinces of Emeria, Arromaia, Amapaia, and other Countries, with their riuers, adioyning. Performed in the yeare 1595, by Sir W. Ralegh Knight, Captaine of her Maiesties Guard, Lo. Warden of the Stanneries, and her Highnesse Lieutenant generall of the Countie of Cornewall. Imprinted at London by Robert Robinson, 1596" (Faksimile des Titelblattes im Buch). Enthalten ist ferner eine vielfach gefaltete Faksimile-Karte der Originalzeichnung Raleighs von Guinea (heute im British Museum, Add ms 17940). "An abstract taken out of certain Spanyardes letters concerning Guiana and the countries lying upon the great riuer of Orenoque; with certaine reportes also touching the same" (vgl. die Letters taken at sea by Captain George Popham, 1594], S. 77-85). Unbeschnitten, unaufgeschnittenes, sehr schönes Exemplar auf dem milchig-gelben Japanvélin, in sehr guter Erhaltung.
