This book begins with the meaning of child which generally means every human being who has not attained the age of 18 unless the state or national laws fix otherwise. Some instances where national laws have fixed the age of child more or less than 18 have been illustrated in this book. This book further contains among other things the international documents for the rights of the child namely the Geneva declaration of the rights of the child of 1924 the declaration of the rights of child of 1969 and the convention on the rights of the child 1989. The convention of 1989 is in the best interest of the child. The convention of 1989 provides whatever the freedoms and rights a child needs and the convention has brought together all the rights of the child described in many international instruments in one up to date. The Government of India not only acceded to the convention of 1989 on 11 December 1992 but the rights of the child prescribed in the convention of 1989 have become a part of the national laws of India by virtue of the Commission for Protection of Childs Rights 2005 made by the Parliament of India. The rights of the child and primary role of the family and parents in the care and protection of children and obligation of the state to help them in carrying out those duties have been dealt with mainly based on the convention of 1989 and the constitution of India. 112 pp.
