A very scarce variant, with the publishing information reading as 'Printed for Nath. Crouch at the Bell, in Exchange-Alley in Corn-Hill; and sold by Obed Smith, Bookseller in Daventry'. No record of this edition on ESTC or JISC. The adverts to the rear state "to this year 1681". This volume matches the first edition of 1682 besides the publication information, and with no date to the title page.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and five plates.A charming history of Britain for children, looking at the country though significant historical events.The volume is organised by county, fantastical events including the tale of King Arthur, trees falling over, a baby in the mother's womb talking, a whale going along the Thames, and more.Written by Nathaniel Crouch under the pseudonym R. B. Crouch was a bookseller who was considered to be somewhat of a hack as a historian, borrowing material from other books. In a full calf binding. Externally, leather is rubbed, resulting in some loss of leather to the rear board. Minor bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the tail of the spine, and to the head of the spine. Light marks to the boards. Front board is a little bowed. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Paste downs are a little worn. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Chips to the front and rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and generally clean with some scattered spots. Frontispiece is detaching with a small closed tear to the head, and a faint tide mark to the top edge. Good. book.

A compilation of works, including 'A Strange and True Account' by H Timberlake, The Travels of Fourteen Englishmen' by Nathaniel Crouch, 'Relation of the great council' by Samuel Brett and 'The Counterfeit Messiah' from John Evelyn's 'History of three late famous imposters'. Collated: Complete, with one plate and pages 152-160 misnumbered. A fascinating volume, containing a great amount information regarding the history of Judaism and their existence in America, Africa, Palestine and more. Uncommon in any edition or condition. Nathaniel Crouch was an English printer and bookseller who wrote under the pseudonym Richard Burton, or R.B. He was considered a poor historian, borrowing heavily from other works and publishing them as his own works under his imprint. He was widely denounced by historians of the following centuries, including Samuel Butler and Alexander Pope, although he is now regarded as a figure of interest in the development of historiography. Rebound in a cloth binding. Externally, very smart with just some light rubbing to the spine and boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned with with moderate spotting and wear to the top and fore edge. Title page and plate laid down. Title page foxed, with heavy repairs. Pages close trimmed to the top edge, not affecting main body of the text. Good. book.

Sometimes attributed to Nathaniel Crouch (who employed the pseudonyms R.B., Robert Burton, and Richard Burton) and to John Phillips. A strongly critical anti-Catholic history of the two reigns. With an advertisement printed on the verso of the title page not present in this edition. Place of publication conjectured by Wing. The last leaf is blank. Later published, in a very much altered version, as part 2 of "The secret history, of the four last monarchs of Great-Britain" (Wing C7346). There are at least two other partial re-impressions of this title published in the same year. One has pagination: [4], 96, 87-134, 145-214, [2] p. Leather significantly dried and rubbed, front cover very nearly separated with shallow loss of leather along joint, spine gilt partly effaced, textblock rather browned and trimmed close slightly affecting text throughout, else a Good, internally sound copy with contemporary ownership signature of a Robt. Donald to title page and armorial ex libris of a Henry Fitz Herbert to front pastedown. Wildly popular account of the travels of Sir Frances Drake by the London bookseller Nathaniel Crouch (ca. 1640-1725) who managed to put out nearly twenty editions by the time of his death. The title page continues: "I. His Voyage in 1572, to Nombre de Dios in the West Indies, where they saw a Pile of Bars of Silver near 70 Foot long, ten Foot broad, and twelve Foot high. "II. His incompassing the whole World in 1577, which he peform'd in two Years and ten Months, gaining a vast quantity of Gold and Silver. "III. His Voyage in America in 1585, and taking the Towns of St. Jago, St. Domingo, Carthagena and St. Augustine. Also his Worthy Actions when Vice-Admiral of England in the Spanish Invasion, 1588. "IV.
