Between February and July 2001 a series of typed letters are exchanged, beginning with Pullman's apologies for abandoning all prior commitments due to his sudden overwhelming fame following the publication of the Amber Spyglass (November 2000), and resulting in an agreement to speak to a small group of students at Oxford in the summer. Also including a gently annotated folding map of Oxford, and four postcards: one being a typed 'change of address' notification; the other three being personal notes written by hand to Kim between 2001 and 2003, explaining the map, and reviewing 'Pirates of the Caribbean' ('good zombies'), and 'Jerry Springer: The Opera' ('wasn't musically interesting enough, but as a show--terrific!').
