Utrecht, H&S Publishers, 1993, thick in-8°, 856 pp, publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering on spine and front cover. Copy from the library of Tom Birrell, with some pencil annotations in his hand. Loosely inserted are 2 handwritten letters from Richard Brain ( sub-editor of the Times Literary Supplement) inviting Birrell to r…eview this book for the TLS. A typescript draft of the review made by Birrell is added. (with the remark that it appeared ''mangled'' in the TLS). Also added are two signed typescript letters from the author of the book (A.D.Renting) writing as librarian of the '' Paleis Het Loo Nationaal Museum - Apeldoorn - The Netherlands''. He is asking Birrell information regarding the possible whereabouts of other copies from the Orange-Nassau library in England. Interesting association copy of this publication . Because of the advance of Internet, similar books published a decade later and after will never again contain letters pertaining to the cooperation of these culture bearers. Last remnants of the letter writing era ..
