He initially served as an Assistant Surgeon in the 49th New York Infantry as saw combat on the Peninsula Campaign and the Seven Days. He was left with the wounded of General W…. F. Smith's division on June 29th, 1862 and became a POW. Potter was sent to Libby Prison and later exchanged and sent back to his unit. After the Battle of Fredericksbug he was promoted to Regimental Surgeon of the 57th New York Infantry and served with them at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg before being sent to help run a division hospital. This book is an updated and edited version of the book first published in 1888. Good copy of the first edition in a good dust jacket. The book itself is very good, but it does have highlighting on 22 pages. The dust jacket has edge wear. 158 pages.
