Signed by François Tollu and Pierre Girard S.S. Printed on watermarked vellum from the Papeteries du Marais. Full polished leather cover, with four raised bands to spines, gilt titles, and elaborate blind-stamped decoration to boards. 240 x 285 x 90mm, both volumes together. Vol. I: 182pp; Vol. II: 216pp. TEXT IN FRENCH. Top edges gilt. Front boards show image of the crucifixion, rear boards of the resurrection. Numerous full-page illustrations by Edy-Legrand in both monochrome and colour. Includes reproductions of six leaves from the autograph manuscript of Thomas a Kempis, which contains the pamphlets called the "Imitation du Christ". Initial letters of each chapter printed in red. Lacks original slipcase. A few very minor signs of wear to edges and corners of covers, where surface leather is a little rubbed; spines slightly faded; very faint spots of foxing to first couple of leaves of volume II.
