Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Hardcover. Green cloth over boards with gilt stamping to front cover and spine. Cloth is a bit rubbed, and there is some light smudging to rear cover; light fraying at head and foot of spine. Previous owner's inscription and name (Josephine Seddon) written on front free endpaper; another owner's name written on half-title page. Title page dated 1905. No copyright page. 46 pages. Rear gutter is cracked through, and final page (of ads) is detached, but present. Binding feels a bit fragile, but text block is holding steady. Some doodling in rear, but pages are otherwise clean and in good reading condition. Striking illustrations. This book is from the Seddon family collection. James Seddon was a congressman from Virginia and then when Virginia seceded from the Union, he served as Secretary of War for the Confederacy. His wife was Sarah Bruce, daughter of one of the richest men in America. They lived at Sabot Hill, outside of Richmond. Their son Arthur married Josephine Venable. Josephine's sister was named Kate Venable and she married Alexander Hamilton (not the famous one). Josephine and Arthur had a son named Kate, as well. This book and the others listed beside it came from Sabot Hill, which burned down after WWI.
