Paperback. Condition: Very Good. In September 2000, I was sitting on a bench facing the Mediterranean Sea in the French Riviera town of Nice. I had flown there during a three-day break in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing trial in Camp Ziest, Netherlands, where I was expected to testify. As I sat on this bench eating lunch, I suddenly found myself overwhelmed by emotion. It was an awakening: I realized that my being there was the fulfillment of one of my many life dreams and goals that were launched thirty-one years earlier from another bench facing the Three Sisters Ponds in Baltimore's Druid Hill Park. Now, from a bench in the French Riviera, I began to chronicle the manifestation of those dreams and goals, accomplished through my thirty-six-year law enforcement career as a Baltimore City policeman and FBI agent. I'm hoping my story catches on with anyone who dares to dream and set challenging and aggressive life goals. I hope to inspire and encourage more interest in law enforcement careers by sharing my professional experiences and the educational, leadership, and career opportunities that were availed to me during my law enforcement career. My responsibilities as a Baltimore City policeman included saving lives, catching murder suspects, confronting wayward police, and dealing with crisis situations such as the 1971 student riots at the University of Maryland and the 1974 Baltimore City Police strike and riots. As an FBI agent, I was a part of the 1981 Brinks armored truck murder/robbery investigation in Nyack, NY; took part in New York FBI SWAT operations; and was involved in international extra-territorial terrorism investigations such as the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, the attempted bombing of then-Secretary of State George Shultz's motorcade in La Paz, Bolivia, and the kidnapping and murders of Americans in Srinagar, India, and Karachi, Pakistan.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. Leadership is learnableA Warren Bennis Executive Briefing Series Book Crosby is taking his message to a different audience--a growing army of intelligent young men and women who are setting out to become executives by choice and for the right reasons.--Central Florida Business In this, his eleventh book, world-renowned consultant Philip Crosby offers readers a simple, yet ingenious method for assessing the skills of those they've been assigned to follow, as well as their own leadership abilities. Leaders, he says, come in five versions?Destructor, Procrastinator, Caretaker, Preparer, and Accomplisher. And by examining each of those character types in relation to his four Absolutes of Leadership, the author establishes a framework would-be leaders can use to build quality leadership skills of their own. Crosby also discusses the leader's role in organizational finance and quality, and in dealing with customers, suppliers, employees, and bosses. You know a leader when you meet one, he asserts and he maintains that those people who already have leadership potential will blossom once they understand and epitomize the precepts set forth in this groundbreaking work.…

Hardback. Condition: Fair. An extensively researched, lavishly illustrated consideration of the myths, memories, and questions that gathered around our most beloved--and most enigmatic--president in the years between his assassination and the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in 1922. Availing themselves of a vast collection of both published and never-before-seen materials, the authors--the fourth and fifth generations of a family of Lincoln scholars--bring into focus the posthumous portrait of Lincoln that took hold in the American imagination. Told through the voices of those who knew the man--Northerners and Southerners, blacks and whites, neighbors and family members, adversaries and colleagues--Looking for Lincoln charts the dramatic epilogue to Lincoln's extraordinary life. During these years, as Americans struggled to understand their loss and rebuild their country, Lincoln's legacy was still hotly debated. The authors take us through the immediate aftermath of the assassination; the private memories of those closest to the slain president; the difficult period between 1876 and 1908, when a tired nation turned its back on the former slaves and betrayed Lincoln's teachings; and the early years of the twentieth century when Lincoln's popularity soared as African Americans fought to reclaim the ideals he espoused. Looking for Lincoln will deeply enhance our understanding of the statesman and his legacy, at a moment when the timeless example of his leadership is more crucial than ever.…
