His academy classmates included Generals Philip Sheridan, John Bell Hood, and James McPherson. He finished as the number two cadet in his class. The vast majority of the book, 447 pages, covers the West Point years. During the Civil War Craighill served in the engineers. He had three brothers serve in the Confederate Army. Very good copy of the first edition in a very good dust jacket. 576 pages.
