In researching his unusual book, following the life cycle of the Eider duck, the author made two expeditions to the Canadian Arctic where he studied the development and behaviour of ducklings, some from incubated eggs, which he then reared. As well as his studies, the book is also an eloquent testimony to the sacrifices and privations that a naturalist must endure if his theories are to be advanced. And it is the theories that are most engrossing, for Driver comnpares the life cycle of the Eider to that of Man, with unique findings. 172 pages including four appendices, index, b/w art frontis by the author with numerous b/w drawings by David Bygott, also numerous b/w photos.
