In two volumes, Everyman's Library 53 and 54, edited by Dr Richard Garnett. Near fine in pink cloth in bright yellow dust jackets, the wrapper of volume one is very good, volume two's is torn and chipped to the spine and repaired with clear tape. Lovingly inscribed by Harry Stopes-Roe to his wife Mary "thank you for typing the index my darling. Harry, 3 Feb 1958". This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes-Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes-Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis.
