Christmas 1916." Joseph P. Tumulty (1879-1954) was Woodrow Wilson's private secretary from 1911-1921. A New Jersey political operative, he first served Wilson during his governorship and followed him to Washington in 1913. In a position now known as the White House Chief of Staff, Tumulty served for the entire two terms of the Wilson administration. Tumulty published his memoir, Woodrow Wilson As I Know Him, in 1921. The first edition of Across My Path: Memories of People I Have Known by La Salle Corbell Pickett, inscribed to Woodrow Wilson's Private Secretary, Joseph Tumulty. This work is dedicated to Margaret Woodrow Wilson, the eldest daughter of President Wil (illustrator). Signed.
