Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover/Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Signed first printing of this memoir of law enforcement and frontier life along the TexasMexico border by John R. Peavey, a veteran deputy sheriff, U.S. Army chief scout, mounted guard of the U.S. Immigration Service, Assistant Chief Patrol Inspector of the U.S. B…order Patrol, and Special Texas Ranger. Drawing on experiences beginning in 1905 in the Rio Grande Valley, Peavey recounts encounters with cattle rustlers, border bandits, and smugglers during the turbulent early twentieth century. The book contains first-hand recollections of border conflicts during the era surrounding the Mexican Revolution and raids associated with figures such as Pancho Villa. Illustrated with sketches drawn by the author and period photographs, the work captures the culture and dangers of frontier law enforcement in South Texas. This copy is inscribed by the author ("With Best Wishes John R. Peavey") and retains the publisher's scarce illustrated dust jacket, though heavily worn. A vivid primary narrative of the Texas borderlands and Ranger history. Dust jacket has tears, visible in photos. Signed "With Best Wishes John R Peavey". No other writing or marks on the cover or in the text. Signed by Author.
