First edition. First edition. 4to. 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" in gold-tinted color wrappers with cover art of an Indian chief in full head-dress, and with feathers framing the image. 116 pp. Printed in orange & black on gold. Several color-tinted and color paper inserts. Advertising section at rear printed on gold-colored paper. Advertisement on back wrapper for Stetson hats. Illustrated from photographs Text illustrations. Illustrated advertisements. Vignettes with many showing Native American theme. Articles include Hats in a fur store; The Twentieth Century hat factory and its modern equipment; Store equipment and arrangement; Advertising Through the Window; The Cap at Christmas Time; Manufacturer?s department; etc. A remarkably scarce installment in the famed Hat Trade periodical which targeted Edwardian hat manufacturers and retailers. The early 20th Century was a vibrant and fast-evolving period for men?s hat fashions with popular Victorian styles such as the Top Hat, English Derby and Western Frontier cowboy hats, being changed with Fedoras, gambler, Panama and skimmer straw hats, and the sporty newsboy caps which became the everyday style for young men, working class, and boys. This lavish production includes advertisements for Hawes, von Gal, Mallory, Dreyer, Wilson, Loewe & Co. Fur hats, and Stetson. Light edgewear and creasing along with light curling from having been rolled for mailing originally. One small closed tear on back cover at fore-edge, else a very good copy.
