Black lettering to the front and the spine. Dated 1966 on title page. 507 pages, wi…th a fold out map at the rear of the book. In French throughout. Good condition. Binding is strong and tight. Book is lightly shelf-cocked. Spine has some wrinkling to the paper. Corners have a bit of creasing. Pages faintly toned, with light foxing to the edges and endpapers. No marks or writing to be found. Dust jacket is lightly chipped along the head and foot of the spine. A bit to the corners as well. Light overall toning. Spine has some wrinkles. A small hand-written label with the number 10,225 at the foot of the spine. This is probably a personal library inventory number. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. Thomas Lovejoy's name is not written in this book, although the spine label may well be his addition. It will come with a card stating provenance, with a picture of Lovejoy.
