Cloth. Condition: Near fine. Dust Jacket Condition: very good. First edition of Out of These Roots: The Autobiography Of An American Woman, signed by former political rivals, Agnes E. Meyer and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. (illustrator). First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, x, 385pp. Green cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine. Stated "first edition" on copyright page. Top edge dyed yellow. Light shelf wear to boards, internally clean. In the publisher's dust jacket, $4.00 on front flap, chipping along top edge of spine, short closed tear, a bright example. Signed on the front free endpaper by Agnes E. Meyer and Eleanor Roosevelt. Agnes E. Meyer was an ardent critic of New Deal policies, believing that "destructive overcentralization of government in Washington" was hurting local communities. She defended her position on a radio program hosted by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1935, describing Mrs. Roosevelt as her "political enemy" in this book, but she respected her for their common interest in "public education" and her nonpartisan generosity. By the 1950's, the two were friends. In Eleanor Roosevelt's "My Day" article from January 9, 1957, she said of Mrs. Meyer: "It is interesting that, as you grow older, sometimes you have the good fortune to outgrow some of the misunderstandings of your youth and to learn the real values of people. Mrs. Meyer and I started off not only on opposite sides of the political fence but we thought our philosophies of life were completely different. It took us a good many years to learn about each other, but gradually we acquired respect and then a real and deep affection, and friendship grew between us. We were working for the same things. Our objectives were the same and I am now proud that I can call Agnes Meyer one of my real friends." Agnes E. Meyer is the mother of Katherine Graham, who led the Washington Post through the Watergate Scandal and to an eventual Pulitzer Prize for their coverage. Signed.

Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Limited Edition. An international bestseller published in over twenty-five countries, HEX by Thomas Olde Heuvelt is the chilling novel that heralded the arrival of a new voice in horror and dark fantasy. In the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town of Black Spring, residents are haunted by the Black Rock Witch, a seventeenth century woman whose eyes and mouth have been sewn shut. Muzzled, the Black Rock Witch roams the streets, enters homes at will and stands beside the beds of children throughout the night. To prevent the curse from spreading, the elders of Black Spring have quarantined the town by way of high-tech surveillance. Frustrated with being kept in lockdown, the town?s teenagers decide to break their strict regulations and go viral with the haunting. In doing so, they send the town spiraling into a witch-hunt that boils over into persecution, scapegoating and a shocking denouement. Setting ancient magic against contemporary technology, HEX is one of the most thoughtful horror stories of the twenty-first century, made all the more chilling for its uncompromising view of humanity. First published in Dutch in 2013, HEX would become the author's English language debut novel just three years later, receiving high praise from peers like Stephen King, who called it, "totally, brilliantly original" and George R.R. Martin who raved, "HEX is creepy, gripping and original sure to be one of the top horror novels of 2016." The Artist edition is limited to 1000 copies and is the only one to be issued with a dust jacket illustrated by Chris Berens. It is a full cloth, smyth sewn binding with two-hits foil stamping. It is signed by the author and the artist. The edition is printed offset on premium archival Cougar paper and is housed in an embossed paper covered slipcase. Signed by Author and Illustrator. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Limited Edition. BRILLIANT and SOLD OUT. This very handsome two volume set of the great KATE WILHELM's work is a wondrous thing. Obviously, as a SOLD OUT limited edition set, this has become already hard to find and the only copies available are on the secondary market. This prized issue is in two volumes, signed by various people involved in getting this definitive set to its finished state. Centipede have excelled their own high standards in thoroughness, in production, and design. nstead of the monsters and heroes of the early formulaic pulps, Wilhelm's work is characterized by well-drawn characters, coherent plots, and psychological, moral, and philosophical tension. She was an early female science fiction writer at a time when the genre was dominated by white male writers, and her work helped reshape the genre, bringing humanity, family relationships, and psychological motivation into focus. Her early works were published in science fiction magazines and earned readers' respect, if not awards, allowing her to hone her craft and gain an understanding of the publishing world. These two hefty volumes from this distinguished small press, might need extra postage depending on destination. VERY RARE. Signed by Author.
