Le projet soutenu se propose d''explorer les défis humains, sociaux et écologiques que le Congo affronte aujourd''hui, en documentant les dures réalités et les immenses défis qui freinent l''essor d''un pays exploité depuis des générations. Grand comme quatre fois la France, la RDC est un pays-continent irrigué par le fleuve Congo. Il concentre d''immenses richesses naturelles et minérales : plus grande forêt pluviale après l''Amazonie, premier producteur de cobalt et de coltan (métaux stratégiques de nos équipements électroniques), deuxième producteur de diamants. Mais le pays, déchiré par des conflits intercommunautaires et politiques récurrents, accumule misères, épidémies et affrontements sanglants. La République démocratique du Congo présente l''un des indices de développement humain (IDH) les plus faibles au monde. Son alphabétisation est en hausse mais sa santé publique à l''abandon, et les violences faites aux femmes et aux enfants y sont endémiques. Le pays possède les plus grandes ressources en eau douce d''Afrique mais a le plus faible taux d''accès à l''eau potable. C''est aussi le moins bien loti en matière d''infrastructures de transport de la planète et un des tristes champions de la déforestation et de l''accaparement des terres et des matières premières.
