Dust jacket rubbed and soiled, spine ends chipped, nicks and short tears at panel edges, slender chipping along flap folds, top corner of front flap is price-clipped; dj presented in old mylar protector. Orange cloth, some fraying and short tears at spine ends, shelf soiling along boards' bottom edges. Dark purple top edge; foxing to fore-edge and bottom edge; toning/foxing to endpapers; past owner's ink signature at top of front free endpaper. Interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A very good- copy in a good dust jacket.

Ugalde, Dupuis, Talazac, Taskin, Gourdon, Belhomme, Troy, Chenevières, Grivot, and Teste. Wrappers slightly worn; upper partially detached; spine creased and with small tears. Some signatures split. Les contes d'Hoffmann, to a libretto by Barbier completed by Guiraud, was first performed in Paris at the Opéra-Comique on 10 February 1881. "[Offenbach] was, with Johann Strauss (ii), one of the two composers of outstanding significance in popular music of the 19th century and the composer of some of the most exhilaratingly gay and tuneful music ever written . His opera Les contes d'Hoffmann has retained a place in the international repertory .
