Het is Schreuders jarenlange love-affair met de kranten- en tijdschriftenverzorging die de voornaamste inspiratiebron vormde voor deze publicatie, waarin enige als vaststaand beschouwde zaken worden losgetrokken. Hij geeft in dit boek bovendien blijk van een uitzonderlijk slechte smaak. De door hem beleden typografische voorkeuren hebben niets gemeen met wat algemeen als mooi wordt ervaren. Toch is het verhaal dat deze man vertelt bij uitstek boeiend. Het is rijkelijk en smakelijk geïllustreerd met typografische voorbeelden uit binnen- maar ook uit buitenland. De oorspronkelijk tekst uit 1977 is herzien en uitgebreid met nóg meer voorbeelden van typografische schandalen, vormgevend machtsmisbruik en georganiseerde misdaad.
