He also specialised in deeply researched historical novels that cover centuries of Scottish history. In this novel the year is 1513; King James IV lies dead on Flodden's field, his young heir entrusted to two low-born lairds. There are many who seek to supplant or control the boy-king, and only his loyal protectors stand in their way. The book is bound in the original black boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in excellent condition with light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with some spotting on the top edge of the text block. The author has inscribed and signed the title-page thus: "For Sinclair Barr, gratefully, Nigel Tranter."
