Proche des pauvres matelots, il faisait des chansons de leur vie. Il devint le chantre de la Marine nationale. Il fut aussi peintre et bibliothécaire au Ministère de la marine. Il a su créer un genre de littérature populaire qui connut un succès immense dans le monde des marins et des équipages de la fin du XIXe et le début du XXe siècle. Une langue simple - la langue naturelle des marins - au service de souvenirs, d'événements, d'évocations qui, pour la plupart, ont une charge émotive importante. L'art de Yann Nibor est de recréer, en un poème, en une chanson, les bonheurs et, plus souvent, les malheurs des marins et des familles de marins. Préface de pierre Loti llustré de nombreux dessins en noir et blanc dans le texte de Léon Couturier. Edition originale de 1890 par Marpon et Flammarion. Reliure artisanale demi tissus d' époque en assez bon état avec un dos lisse orné du nom de l' auteur et d' une pièce de titre dorée . Les plats sont marbrés et la couverture d' origine a été conservée. L' intérieur est dans un état moyen. Format 18x11x3 cm, 264 pages.
