Hardback. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Hardy, E. Stuart (illustrator). circa 1896. Almost very good condition with no wrapper. A Panorama Picture Book of Fairy Stories. Nister book 633. Six stunning three-dimensional stand-up scenes. Large oblong format. Green cloth spine, colour pictorial paper boards. Front cover shows the Babes in the Wood riding on a leaf in the air harnessed to a pair of robins. Green/white floral endpapers. Spine has been rebacked with red cloth. Corners and cover edges are worn. There is some scuffing to the covers. Front free-endpaper is missing. Inscription in ink to top margin of title-page. One page has a large closed tear which has been neatly repaired. From the pop-up scenes there are some flowers missing at the top of the fairy's oar (in the swan picture) and the giant is missing from behind Jack (in the Jack and the Giant picture) otherwise the pop-ups are complete, bright and in excellent working order. The text pages are well fingered and thus a little grubby. A decent copy of a scarce pop-up book. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!

Add to basketFirst (sole?) edition of an enchanting and engaging look into "Fairy Land" via a clever use of pop-ups, in very good condition. Illustrations by Eveline Stuart Hardy. Tells several fairy stories with six (6) full-page pop-up scenes, including: "The Procession of Nursery Rhymes"; "A Visit to the Snow Queen's Palace"; "The Fairies' Lake"; "Jack Running Away from the Giant"; "The Queen of the Bird Fairies"; and "The Babes Asleep in the Wood". All of the moveable components are present, save one small piece lacking in the first. Oblong folio (10.75" by 13.75"), pp. [28] including six (6) full-page pop-up illustrations. In original illustrated chromolithographed boards backed in red cloth. Contemporary ink inscription to front free endpaper: "Hedwig M. Gennerich. From Tante Hedwig." Ernest Nister (1841-1906) was a prominent publisher of children's books known for his use of use of paper engineering. In 'The Collector's Book of Children's Books" Eric Quayle described this as one of the finest of Nister's stand-up books. Very good. Minor toning and spotting, one or two short tears. One small moveable fragment missing from first pop-up opening, not significantly affecting movement or effect. Remnants of tape. Binding worn.
