Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Presentation copy, inscribed and signed by the author in his signature red felt-tip ink on the rear wrapper: "For Ken with best wishes Ted Nelson." The previous owner and inscribee represents that this copy traces to a 1990 hypertext workshop in Boston, where it was purchased from and signed by Nelson. Original white card wrappers, side-stapled with two metal staples as issued; spine intentionally blank. Variously paginated [pp. [unpaginated preliminaries], [approx. 250, variously paginated by chapter, e.g., 3/1, 4/1], illus. A very good, internally bright copy of the 1987 "Technical Edition." Early state of the 1987 technical edition. This copy contains the features associated with the San Antonio technical printing, including the 8480 Fredericksburg Road address, the "SilverStands" chapter, the "Plan of this Book" Preface, the Pretzel/Infinity diagram, and the expanded 4.x protocol chapters. However, the book also bears the later ISBN 0893470562, which presence on an earlier Texas-printed text block suggests later distribution labeling rather than a distinct printing. Bibliographically distinct from earlier "Humanist" versions, Edition 87.1 introduced the full technical protocols for the Xanadu storage system (Chapters 4) and the legal framework for digital royalties (Chapters 5). A foundational text of the information age by the man who coined the terms "hypertext" and "hypermedia." Covers show some mild toning, spots, abrasions, smudging, and shelfwear. Some rust under staples. Nice copy. Inscribed by Author(s).
