First Edition Signed
Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (There is a small label on the rear inside cover where it states 'First Edition'). The book is signed and inscribed by the author on the first front end paper. It is inscribed to the renowned actor Theodore Bikel. As you can see in the photo, his name is written in a sort of calligraphy as are the chapter headings throughout the book. The author refers to this on the title page: 'Handwriting by the Author.' The inscription reads: 'To Theodore Bikel-- In appreciation and admiration for your distinguished talents, my thoughts are with you. Nathaniel Cohen, June 1964.' You can see the covers in the photos. They have some toning. The front cover has the tracing of two tan lines. There is some creasing on the spine. The top and middle page edges are dust stained. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. There is some dust staining or foxing off the top and middle edge of the signed page. The same is the case for the next page, the title page, and a couple of the subsequent pages. I found one other page in the body of the text with a similar look and that's also the case with a few of the last pages. Otherwise, in the body of the text you'll find some pages that have just a little bit of this amber discoloration off the top edges, nothing very conspicuous. I didn't see any other kind of soiling or staining on any of the pages. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. Inscribed by Author(s).

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - This collection features classic short stories and poems by the nineteenth century literary giants, Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville. Their masterpieces of mystery, terror and the supernatural abound with irony and symbolism and have been eulogized by world-renowned authors: 'Poe's verses illustrate an intense faculty for technical and abstract beauty, with the rhyming art to excess, an incorrigible propensity toward nocturnal themes, a demonic undertone behind every page - and, by final judgement, probably belong among the electric lights of imaginative literature, brilliant and dazzling.' Walt Whitman, 'Edgar Poe's Significance,' The Critic, II, 1882 'The story of the Lady Ligeia is not merely one of the wonders of literature: it is unparalleled and unapproached.' George Bernard Shaw, 'Edgar Allan Poe,' Nation, 1909 '. in the field of letters, Hawthorne is the most valuable example of the American genius.' Henry James, Hawthorne, 1879 'Melville at his best invariably wrote from a sort of dreamself, so that events which he relates as actual fact have indeed a far deeper reference to his own soul, his own inner life. Melville was, at the core, a mystic and an idealist' D. H. Lawrence, Studies in Classic American Literature, 1923 The book includes 10 unique illustrations and the following works: Ligeia The Fall of the House of Usher The Tell-Tale Heart The Black Cat The Cask of Amontillado The Pit and the Pendulum Dream-Land The Raven Ulalume The Birthmark Young Goodman Brown The Minister's Black Veil Rappaccini's Daughter Roger Malvin's Burial The Darken'd Veil Forms of Heroes Bartleby, The Scrivener: A Story of Wall-Street The Martyr The Maldive Shark The Berg (A Dream) Look-Out Mountain (The Night Fight).
