Paperback. Condition: As New. Softcover. Spanish text. Good binding and cover. Light wear. Clean, unmarked pages. 519 pages : illustrations, 24 cm. The purpose of this book is to contribute to the study and understanding of republican Peruvian art, from the beginning of the 19th century to the first two decades of the 21st century, through one of its least worked disciplines: sculpture. It is analyzed how this artistic discipline has been used by some governments to justify demagogic proposals with the excuse of specific historical conjunctures, which were reflected in the city's beautification of promenades, parks and avenues. In this analysis, which starts from public sculpture, stops at religious, funeral and urban sculpture, and leaves a special section for artists; Academic teaching and state and private competitions are also reviewed.
