This book provides a study of the development of set decoration from Greek drama to the time of its publication in 1940. Consideration is given to architectural perspective, colour, balance and lighting. There are also six studies of the careers and work of designers of the period, including the theatre set designers Oliver Messel and Gordon Craig as well as the film set designers Vincent Korda and Laurence Irving.

Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. xiv, 266, with c. 100 illustrations and 8 tipped in colour plates of the author's own architectural paintings, mostly of post-war renewal projects. Original black cloth with stamped yellow signature on front cover and yellow titles to spine. Ex-library, withdrawal stamp on ffep, smaller, unobtrusive stamps throughout, recall number on spine. In very good condition with small tear at headband.
