Broschiert / Paperback. Condition: Gut. 27 S. / p. Rückseite 3 Klebeflecken, ansonsten tadelloser Zustand / Back side 3 glue spots, otherwise perfect condition - PREFACE -- The story of the life of Ali Migeyo is intricately linked with the story of the nationalist politics of Tanganyika in general and of Bukoba in particular. The boyhood of Tanganyikan nationalism coincides with the young manhood of Ali Migeyo. When the first riot takes place in Bukoba, he is already an involved politician. His doldrums in political life coincide with the doldrums of the Tanganyika African Association in the area. Thus right through to independence his life has always been closely involved with nationalist politics. If that were all, it would be enough reason to record Ali Migeyos story and to put it into annals for posterity. -- While on vacation during 1968 from my work as a history student at the University College, Dar es Salaam, I interviewed Mzee Ali several times and recorded his life story. None of the information was tape-recorded, so that I can quote only from my hand-written notes of the interviews. My thanks are especially due to Mzee Ali himself, who agreed to leave off his work on many occasions to furnish me with his story; indeed it is almost his autobiography. I must also thank the many politicians in Bukoba who have worked with Mzee Ali, especially Mr. Suedi Kagasheki, for the information they gave me, particularly concerning the organisation of politics in the 1930s and 1940s. Finally, I am grateful to the Principal and the Research Committee of the University College, Dar es Salaam, for providing me with a living allowance during this research.
