The author, a relative of General Gordon, was a volunteer on the Stanley expedition sent out for the relief of Emin Pasha. Illustrations include a small map of Fort Bodo made on the spot. Rebound with new end papers. Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing. End papers are more notably tanned. Cracking to hinges, no damage to end papers. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends, with fraying cloth and small splits. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains.
