Blue publisher's linen, red star badge front cover, gilt lettering, t.e.g. (minor rubbing, edgewear, slightly cocked), still a VG copy from the library of Ulrick Theodore Lindberg (1855-1938), Swedish-American carpenter, builder & gardener, w/ ink MS note by his daughter Elise Lindberg Spencer, that the book had been given to her father, "by the author" and original dittoed catalogue description from Glenn Books, Kansas City, MO, w/ bookmark. First edition of this very scarce author published collection of letters documenting his service during the Civil War in May, 1861 as a first lieutenant with the 2nd Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, through mustering out in July 1865. Morse (1839-1926) fought at the battles of Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg rising to Major in the Union Army, and afterwards he was attached as Lieutenant Colonel with General Sherman in his march to Atlanta. His letters detail camp life, military routine, the battles, up to the siege of Atlanta providing a vivid first-hand account of the War. During Reconstruction he worked as a cotton farmer in Georgia for five years, before traveling west in 1870 with the railroads, and became general manager of the Atchiston, Topeka, & Santa Fe RR in Topeka, and then general manager and president of the Kansas City Stock Yards, and Kansas City Metropolitan Street Railway. Exceedingly uncommon in the trade, and last auction copies were Massachusetts Historical Society duplicates in their 1919 Libbie & Co. sale; See: Susan Martin, Charles F.
