A Near Fine copy. This is a spirited biography about six members of the Canadian Mounted Police during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Author T. Morris Longstreth's account offers a glimpse into the lives of the Mounted Police. There are six parts, each dedicated to a Commissioner of the Mounted Police. The commissioners featured in this biography (with years of service in parentheses) are Commissioner G. A. French (1873-1876), Commissioner J. F. MacLeod (1876-1880), Commissioner A. G. Irvine (1880-1886), Commissioner L. W. Herchmer (1886-1900), Commissioner A. B. Perry (1900-1922), and Commissioner Corlandt Starnes (1922-; Starnes was still Commissioner at the time of this book's publication). Today, the Mounted Police is known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) which was formed after the merging of the Royal North-West Mounted Police and Dominion Police in 1920.
