Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. aA few Choice Words to the Public, With new and Original Poemsa presents a collection of verse by Julia A. Moore, an American writer active in the late 19th century. Often dubbed 'The Sweet Singer of Michigan, ' Moore's work is characterized by its unique style and unconventional approach to poetry. This volume offers readers a glimpse into her distinctive voice, which, while earnest, was also met with considerable criticism and even satirical acclaim. This collection provides a valuable insight into the literary landscape of the period and the reception of unconventional poetic forms. Moorea(TM)s poems, though not always celebrated for their technical merit, offer a unique perspective and an enduring charm for those interested in exploring the lesser-known corners of American literary history. A fascinating artifact of its time, the book is a testament to the diversity of voices that contributed to the development of American literature. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: As New. No Jacket. We seldom list these "facsimile reprints," both for fear of confusing the unwary and because those who churn out such volumes are seldom very careful about describing precisely what they've reproduced or where they got it. (We relent here since originals can be so pricey.) So far as we can tell, this is a facsimile reprint -- though "blown up" to octavo size -- of the "First Collected Edition" of the poems of Michigan's famous 19th century bad poet, said "collected edition" originally published by Pascal Covici 1928, which ITSELF was incomplete and jumbled. The as-new trade paperback volume in hand reproduces the 1928 Introduction by Walter Blair, which quotes the famous tongue-in-cheek October, 1877 cover letter sent out by publisher J.F. Ryder of Cleveland with HIS edition of Mrs. Moore's work, seeking reviews, which request (as he doubtless anticipated) drew only catcalls and ridicule. We offer two authentic 19th century editions of Julia Moore, separately -- please see either of those listings for more complete bibliographic background. This as-new modern trade paperback reprint counting 158 pp. now reduced from $12.

Gift inscription on free front endpaper. With an introduction by "T" that is somewhat more substantial than the verses. Moore was known among her peers, and to historians of poetry as one of the "worst poets" society.
