First edition thus, hardcover, has a skew to the binding, bumps to the spine ends and cover corners, subtle waving with a few small spots and smudges to the edges of the text block, and a previous owner's brief note to the last free end page with some pencil marks to the text that are largely limited to the Preface. Overall, this is a solid, Near Very Good copy in a Very Good dust jacket, which has bumps with light creasing to the spine ends and corners, rubbing with some smudges and subtle soiling to the covers, and light wear to the edges with a short tear near the upper front corner.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall; Three volumes in four books; translated from the last Paris edition by Rev. C. Moore; Vol. 1: 243, Vol. 2 & 3: 186, 187-288 and Vol. 4: xi-[15]16-334pp. ; rebound late 19th century 3/4 calf leather with marbled covered boards, raised bands with gilt decorations. The leather at the tips and spine ends on all volumes is scuffed, some of the tips are worn to the board at the very end. Small chip in the top spine edge of volume 3 and the front cover is rubbed at the bottom. All are tight and clean with occasional foxing. Pastedown is linen, A very nice tight clean and attractive book. Previous owners initials printed small on front end page.
