A collection of writings, primarily poetry and some prose published by the Monks of St Giles, a quasi-literary club formed in 1852 that has a long tradition of privacy and secrecy. Combining sociability with poetry and prose composition, members adopt monastic names, wear monks' habits and meet for dinners where they read their poems. This copy is a good condition, illustrated hardback. Some marks to hardcover. Signs of wear on spine and edges. Some fading of the gilt lettering and graphic. Discolouration and fading of gilt on page edges. Internal pages mainly clean. Illustrations very good. Penned inscription of what looks like 'Rst Gould' on inside page.
