From the library of Byron Price, with his bookplate. First published… edition, binding B, of what is considered Mitchell's greatest work. A historical novel, it is set in Philadelphia during the American Revolution. After the book was printed and bound in 1896, a decision was made to postpone its publication and to first run it serially in the Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine. The present edition differs from the pre-publication edition in that the titles pages are cancels, with the new date of 1897, and frontispieces were inserted. He authored these six essays for every physician in particular the "weak and nervous" woman: "The Physician", "Convalescence", "Pain and Its Consequences", "The Moral Management of Sick or Invalid Children", "Nervousness and Its Influence on Character", "Out-Door and Camp-Life for Women.
