I don't find these objectionable in this book, but if you do, please refrain from buying it! 311 pages. A marvelous book of fairy tales and legends about animals of the night, and other nocturnal happenings.

Rubbing and creasing to dustjacket edges; chips and small tears to top/bottom of dustjacket spine. Light moisture stain to front of dustjacket. Protected in mylar. During her brief writing career, Monica Shannon (1905?-65) produced a variety of children's books and won the prestigious Newbery Medal. Shannon was born in Belleville, Ont., but moved to the United States before her first birthday. The appreciation of nature she developed while growing up on a ranch in the Bitter Root Valley of the Rocky Mountains was later reflected in her books. She attended schools in Washington, Idaho, and California, and worked as a librarian at the Los Angeles Public Library. Shannon published her first book, 'California Fairy Tales', in 1926, weaving together colorful stories and observations of California's natural history.Shannon wrote her best-known work, the 1935 Newbery Medal-winner 'Dobry', in 1934).

A series of names (or an inscription) has been crossed out in magic marker on the front free endpaper as well. Very interesting black-and-white illustrations throughout by CE Millard nicely complementing Monica Shannon's text.
