Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Signed by previous owner Philip Jean Carter. And inscribed at chapter contribution "For Phil - With Best wishes For Many Fine Trout Caught on Nymphs! Chuck Fothergill Aspen 6/29/81". Nymphs are the most versatile imitations in anyone's fly box. Here is a treasury of nymphing lore and tying advice from many renowned fishermen, including: Al McClane, Frank Sawyer, V. S. Hidy, Al Caucci, Bob Nastasi, Poul Jorgensen, Lefty Kreh, Carl Richards, Dave Whitlock, Ed Zern, Chuck Fothergill, and others. The contributors address such topics as: The naturals' life cycles, the best imitations, reading water, special casts, nymphs for bass, bluegill, and other fish, and with a chapter on Advanced Nymphing Techniques by Chuck Fothergill. No other book combines such a variety of techniques from so many accomplished fishermen. (7 x 10, 272 pages, b&w photos, illustrations. J. Michael Migel also edited The Masters on the Dry Fly and The Stream Conservation Handbook. Leonard M. Wright Jr. was the author of Fishing the Dry Fly as a Living Insect and Fly-Fishing Heresies. Chuck Fothergill was the originator of the "outrigger" technique, with was further popularized by Lefty Kreh, who used the term in a published article in ?Fly Fisherman? magazine. It got the name due to the generally high rod position during the drift of the weighted nymph, and because it reminded him of the out-riggers on sailing vessels. Lefty never quite understood (until later years) that he had witnessed a brand new and most productive way of fishing. This method is now known to all fly fishermen simply as "nymph-fishing". Chuck taught hundreds of people between Denver and Aspen to fish and tie flies. Many of these people went on to become guides and shop owners in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. In Aspen he taught the ?gang of eight? who were the premier fishermen and guides in Aspen for years ? Charlie Loughridge, Bob Sterling, George Odier, Frank Beer, Bob Simon, Terry Ross, Hal Clark, and George Manuel. Winter fly fishing was indeed introduced in the early 1970?s by Fothergill and his guides, using Chuck?s technique, practically unknown outside of Aspen at this time. Chuck's signature is rarely offered.
