Upper inner corners stained throughout, the opening leaves repaired/infilled where decayed. From the collection of Christopher Hogwood (1941-2014). "As a theorist, Montéclair was less systematic and abstract than Rameau, 16 years his junior, with whom he quarrelled in an exchange of eight articles in the Mercure de France (nos.1, 3 and 7 are by Montéclair, who is not identified). He was concerned mostly with the practical application of theory, as exemplified by his Petite méthode pour apprendre la musique aux enfans and his Méthode facile pour apprendre à jouer du violin (the first violin method in France). The pages of his Nouvelle méthode pour apprendre la musique are filled with musical examples illustrating 'Airs de dance sur toutes sortes de mouvements" (Grove Online). 4to. Drei ausnehmend seltene Ausgaben mit Werken für ein Tasteninstrument, in keiner deutschen Bibliothek nachweisbar. "Als Erbe der Lully-Tradition war Montéclair eine der glänzendsten musikalischen Figuren der Zeit vor Rameau. Er hinterließ ein schmales [.] und in mancher Hinsicht richtungsweisendes Oeuvre von hoher Qualität." (Thomas Leconte in MGG ) Michel Pignolet de Montéclair (1667-1737), "ein bemerkenswerter Baßgambist", hat vermutlich den Kontrabass an der Pariser Oper eingeführt. Dank neuartiger Unterrichtsmethoden war er zudem ein gefragter Pädagoge und unterrichtete auch die Töchter von Fr. Couperin. 1721 erwarb er zusammen mit seinem Neffen Fr. Boivin die berühmte Druckerwerkstatt Henri Foucaults in der rue Saint-Honoré a la regle d'or, zog sich aber nach der Hochzeit Boivins mit der Tochter des Verlegers Ballard aus dem Geschäft zurück. - Aus dem Besitz von Baron Johann Jakob von Eltz-Kempenich (1703-1770), mit dessen mehrfachem Namenseintrag. - RISM M 3408, 3409, 3407; MGG 12, 382.
